The Goldfinch, New Zealand or European GoldfinchCarduelis carduelis is a European introduced bird which is common in New Zealand occurring through the North and South Islands. The male is a beautiful bird with a red face, a white post-eye strip bordered by a black strip with black and yellow wings and a cream-colored breast and body. The female is more uniform light yellow with the same black and yellow wings as the male Photos 6947 to 6955 were taken at the Miranda Sea Bird sanctuary. The remaining photos including the two females were taken at the Otorohanga Kiwi House Zoo. The name New Zealand or European Goldfinch helps to distinguish it from the American Goldfinch.
