The Lesser GoldfinchCarduelis psaltria along with the House Finch are the two most common birds in the Comings’ Backyard. The black crown is not as distinctive as in the American Goldfinch and the nape of the neck is light yellow-green compared to the all yellow back of the American Goldfinch. The female (1275) lacks the black crown. The Lesser Goldfinch is very common on feeders, ours included.
