The Guira CuckooGuira guira is a new world cuckoo. Its distribution includes most of South America as shown in map. Most old would cuckoos (Cuculidae) are parasitic in that they lay their eggs in the nests of other birds and let those other birds hatch and raise their young. By contrast very few of the New World cuckoos, including the Guira Cuckoo, are parasitic.
The Guira Cuckoo has a reddish bill and crown feathers contrasting with yellow abdominal feathers resulting in a striking appearance.
