The Chihuhuan Raven Corvus cryptoleucus is very similar to the Common Raven. The range of the Chihuhuan Raven is Texas and Oklahoma and the southern parts of Arizona and New Mexico. It is slightly smaller and has a slightly smaller beak than the Common Raven but these are hard to distinguish in the field. The nasal bristles of the Chihuhuan Raven are longer, extending halfway down the bill (7115, 7098) but only a third of the way down the Common Raven’s bill. If the wind is right it may expose the white base of the feathers of the neck Chihuhuan Raven while the base of these feathers in the Common Raven is black.
This Chihuhuan Raven was part of the raptor release of the Arizona-Sonoran Dessert Museum in Tucson, AZ.
