The Hepatic TanagerPiranga flava, was formerly placed in the tanager family (Thraupidae), however, it and other members of its genus are now classified in the cardinal family (Cardinalidae). The species' plumage and vocalizations are similar to other members of the cardinal family. It ranges from the southwestern United States to northern Argentina. These were photographed at the Arenal Observatory, Costa Rica.
