Skimmers are medium to large birds that derive their name from their method of feeding – dipping their mandible into the water to skim for fish while flying. There are three species:

Black Skimmer Rynchops niger
African Skimmer Rynchops flavirostris
Indian Skimmer Rynchops albicollis
