In its stately, elegant beauty the Black-necked StiltHimantopus mexicanus is rivaled only by the American Avocet, with whom it often shares mudflats. Its stark black and white coloring is often reflected by the waters it is standing in, producing a striking doublet of bird and bird reflection. This is shown well in most of these photos. When an adult and a young juvenile are combined the effect is even more touching (4697, 4720).
The last four photos were taken at Cano Negro, Hacienda Solimar and the Taracoles River, Costa Rica.
