The Japanese White-eye (Mejiro) Zosteropus japonicus was introduced to Hawaii in 1927 and spread to all of the Islands. Its success has been attributed to being able to subsist on a variety of food sources and in a variety of habitats. The dramatic feature is its white eye-ring. We found this bird in the dense forest cover at Kê'ê Beach in Hâ'ena State Park, Kauai. Photo3079 shows the striking effect of seeing both white eye-rings at the same time.
Those photos in the 3 to 309 series were taken in Costa Mesa, CA.
