The Arenal Volcano Observatory Lodge is one of the most famous lodges in Costa Rica. The volcano is active and on a rare cloudless day a small venting of steam is visible. We fortunately had a cloudless day resulting in a orgy of filming.
Juan had peaked my interest in Motmots and I told him I would love to get a photograph of at least one species. Before we left the area he had found three different species at cose enough range to photograph. These were the Keel-billed, Broad-billed and Rufous Motmots (see MOTMOTS). Later at Hacienda Solimar I picked up the Turquoise-browed Motmot and at Punta Leona added the Blue-crowned Motmot. Thus, I was able to photograph 5 of the 6 Costa Rica Motmots. The gardens of the Lodge provided a source of other birds and many flowers.
