We had Juan Deago Carlos for Cano Negro and Arenal. I saw a photo he had taken of a Keel-billed Motmot and I wanted to get some Motmot photos. He wonderfully obliged and in two days I had great photos of the Keel-Billed, Broad-Billed and Rufus Motmot, to say nothing of the many other birds.
We picked up Johan Fernandez at Hacienda Solimar. One of the highlights of that trip was the Jabiru. I happened to mention that it would be great to photograph one. Within 15 minutes he has spotted one in the scope, very far away. Dimetrio got us closer where we picked up two in a nearby pasture. Then on the way home in the evening we came upon two more at very close range. See the Jabiru page. Johan guided me through the difficult task of photographing in the Carara National Park where the dense forest was a chalange.
We picked up Jim Zook at Kevin’s house near San Jose and he expertly guided us at Savegre, Esquinas and Talari. Numerous passes along the pastures new Esquinas lodge picked up many different species. A highlight was the Volcano Junco at the Mountain of Death (see Volcano Junco) and of course getting photos of the Resplendent Quetzal.
The guides at Rancho Nauralista were Harry Barnad, Juan Carlos Rodriquez and Lev Frid. Here a highlight was the Sun Bittern and Fasciated Tiger-heron along the Tuis River and all to birds that showed up at the lighted sheet especially the Red-throated Ant-tanager.
THANK YOU ALL.
