The Pacific Golden PloverPluvialis fulva is seen everywhere on in Maui, especially on golf courses. Half of these were taken on the Dunes Golf Course on the lowlands, the ones with a brown and green grass background were taken at Hosmer Grove in the highland forests. The Pacific Golden Plover is the most common winter migrant on the islands. The birds arrive in August and leave for their Artic summer grounds in the spring. By the time they are ready to leave in April they have attained a striking black nape, breast, and belly. Close (3073) up they look like the innocent big eyed paintings of Margaret Keane.
