Honeyeaters are a large family consisting of 40 different genera. They are small to medium size birds. They are found in Australia, New Guinea and the surrounding area. They are important in the fertilization of many plants. They have a unique brush-tipped tongue with bristles that soak up liquids. Honeyeaters and Australian Chats make up the family of Meliphagidae.
The Blue-faced Honeyeater is the only member of the genus Endomyzon and the Bellbird is the only member of the genus Anthornis.
