The Red-billed Gull,Mackerel GullChroicocephalus scopulinus is the most common gull in New Zealand both the North and South Islands. It is preferentially found at the coast. It has a bright red bill (207), occasionally with some black, bright red legs (2126), and a bright red eye-ring (8208). In flight it shows grayish wings and black tips and white at the extreme tip (8667). The photo of the Red-billed gull and chicks was taken at the Royal Albatross Colony at the end of the Otago Peninsula outside of Dunedin.
