The breeding plumage of the Ruddy Duck is shown in 2375 taken at Anza Borrego State Park, CA in mid-May. The white facial patch around the eye is still present but the bill is bright blue and the back and body a deep ruddy color.
Since most of these photos of the Ruddy Duck Oxyura jarnaicensis were taken in the winter, they do not have their distinctive ruddy color typical of the breeding duck. These photos were taken in mid-March at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve in Henderson.
Photos in the 0000 series were taken at the small Seaworld closed avairy. Photo 0717 shows the typical upright tial of the stiff-tail ducks.
