From a distance they appear black but up close and with the right light shows a beautiful purple head and blue breast and upper back with black wings and tail. The eye is bright yellow. The female has dark brown scapulars and coverts and light tan neck and breast. These photos were taken at Gatorland. The Common Grackle has a dark brown breast and upper back.
