The Greater Roadrunner Geococcys californianus was famously portrayed in Disney's cartoons. We often see them on dessert golf courses. They are the only animals known to attack rattlesnakes, often in pairs with one distracting the snake while the other sneaks up and peeks it on the head. One way to clear the golf course of rattlesnakes. The roadrunner in photos 0504 and 0497 were taken on Talega Golf Course at San Clemente, CA.
The remaining two photos were taken at the Bosque del Apache Preserve in Socorro, NM.
