The Brown-crowned Tchagra (Tchagra australis) is a species of bird in the Malaconotidae family. If is found in sub-Sahara Africa. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests and dry savanna.
Tchagras are grey-brown bush-shrikes with rufous wings and white-tipped tails, which are best identified by their distinctive head patterns. The brown crown strip is bordered with black (see # 7297).
They inhabit thick cover, have slow movements, often feed on the ground and rarely ascend above eye-level.
