The skin of the male Land Iguana during mating season is one of the truly remarkable sights of the natural world. The bright orange coloration is well shown in first five photos. The Iguana in photo 0586 is showing a change in coloration. The female Land Iguana (6069) is pale by comparison to the breeding male. The two Land Iguanas staring at each other through the wire fence were photographed at the Darwin field station on Santa Cruz.
To be totally accurate, the breeding male Iguanas shown in photos 5950 and 5906 were photographed at the Fairchild Botanical Gardens in Coral Gables, FL that we visited on the way to the Galapagos, and the female Land Iguana (6069) was photographed at Iguana Park in Guayaquil, Ecquador the day before we left for the Galapagos.
