Sun Bittern Eurypypga helias is a Central and South American bittern-like bird. It is named after the spectacular display seen when it spreads it wings, resembling a sunset. I did not see this but I have included a figure of it taken in the New York Central Park Zoo Aviary by Ferne Spieler. The distribution of the Sun Bittern is shown in the range map. It is the sole member of the family Eurypygidae (sometimes spelled Eurypigidae) and genus Eurypyga.
