Sapsuckers are in the same family of Picidae as woodpeckers but in a separate genus of Sphyrapicus. They feed primarily on the sap of trees, have stiff tails and relatively long wings. The four species are:

Red-naped Sapsucker Sphyrapicus nuchalis
Red-breasted Sapsucker Sphyrapicus ruber
Williamson's Sapsucker Sphyrapicus thyroideus
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Sphyrapicus varius
