The New Zealand White-capped Albatross Thalassarche steadi is also called a mollymawk, a group of medium sized albatrosses in the genus Thalassarche. The different species of mollymawk are listed below. These photos were taken on two pelagic trips, one from Kaikoura and the other from Steward Island harbor. The two major mollymaks we saw were the New Zealand White-capped Mollymawk with all white head and neck, and Savin’s Mollymawk with a white cap but grey neck and breast.
