The Guanay Cormorant or Guanay Shag, Phalacrocorax bougainvillii, is a member of the comorant family found in on the Pacific Coast of Peru and Chile. After breeding it spreads south to southern parts of Chile and north to Ecuador. Its major habitats include shallow seawater and rocky shores.
From the marshes and sea coast of the Los Pantanos de Villa reserve, hundreds of Guanay Cormorants can be seen flying just off shore (see photos). It has a striking area of red skin around this eyes.
