The American Dipper Cinclus mexicanus also known as the Water Ouzel, is a smallish reclusive bird that inhibits the banks of rapidly moving streams and rivers. These features make it difficult to photograph almost requiring a boat. This was solved when we took a drift boat-fishing trip down the McKenzie River in Oregon. Dick Evans, our guide, told us he frequently saw the American Dipper during his trips so we were on the lookout for them and were rewarded by these photographs. A movie segment (see Bird Movies in www.ComingsBirds.com/PacificCoast) shows the typical dipping movement of this remarkable water bird.
