More species of birds (1880+) have been recorded in Columbia than any other country. On our December 2014 cruise from Miami, through the Panama Canal to Los Angeles, our first destination was Santa Marta, Columbia.
BirdingPal.com led us to Gabriel Utria Ortega “Gabo” of BIRDING SANTA MARTA [Facebook: birding santa marta]. We only had a few hours and could barely put a dent in the birds of Columbia. He took us up to the hummingbird feeders at Hotel Minca. On the way we met another bird guide, Sebastian Ballesteros, with a client from California.

Sebastian took us to a banana feeder at his small ranch in the mountains. This is where all of the birds on this site, with the exception of the humming birds, were photographed. It will take more trips to make a dent in all of the Columbia birds.
