The Purple-throated Carib Eulompis jugularis is found throughout most of the Lesser Antilles. These were photographed on our birding trip with Bernard in the Dominica Northern Forest Reserve. As with all hummingbirds the intensity of the coloration of the gorget is dependent upon the angle of the incident sun. Thus, in most of the photos the gorget is brownish-red-purple. Occasionally with just the right angle it is bright red 5460.
