Yellow-crested Parakeet
The Yellow-crested Parakeet Cyanoramphus auriceps is endemic to New Zealand. It was once widely distributed throughout both mainland islands and offshore islands, normally associating with the New Zealand red-crowned parakeet, which is now rarely seen on the mainland North and South Islands.
Although its numbers have been severely reduced, it is the most commonly found New Zealand parakeet. It is still present in the large forest tracts of the North, South, and Stewart Islands, and is found in the sub-antarctic Auckland Islands.
In contrast to the yellow-crowned Parrot which has only yellow on its crown, the Yellow-crested Parakeet has a yellow crown with a red forehead.
