The photographs of
Penguins shown in this folder were taken at the Penguin House in Seaworld, Orlando. I did not have to take a trip to Antarctica as my friends with similar pictures had to do. That does not mean I am not planning to go – just sometime in the future.

Modern Penguins are in the order Sphenisciformes, family Spheniscidae, and subfamily Spheniscinae with the below living genera and species. Photographs are shown of the species highlighted in red. The Galapagos penguin can be seen on the www.ComingsBirds.com./Galapagos web site.

The word sphenoid is from the Latin
sphenoeides meaning wedge shaped. The wedge shaped presumably refers to the shape of the standing penguin.
