The Yellow-breasted Chat Icteria virens is the largest of the Wood Warblers. It is uncommon and secretive and found in dense tangled busy areas which is exactly where I found it at the far reaches of the Hansen Dam Recreation Area, Lake View Terrace, CA. It has white around the eye and more white areas both above and below the eye and a very bright yellow throat and breast.
Although it has been placed in the family Parulidae of New World Warblers, there has recently been some question about whether it truly belongs to this family.
