Like the Black Turnstone, the Ruddy TurnstoneArenaria interpres also forages for food by "turning stones" on rocky beaches. It is a smallish orange-legged shore bird. Both this Ruddy Turnstone and the Black Turnstone were photographed intermingling with each other on the same isolated beach in front of the of the Montage Hotel, Laguna Beach, CA.
The Ruddy Turnstone is a circumpolar sandpiper breeding in the summer in the high artic and migrating in the winter to shorelines throughout the U.S.
