When we got to Guayaquil on the way to the Galapagos we took a morning walking tour of Cerro Blanco, a privately held preserve just outside of the city. The best catch there was the beautiful Ecuadorian Trogan Trogon mesurus with a bright red breast, green head and neck, and red eye ring contrasting with a white iris and plain grey tail feathers (6038). Just as we were preparing to leave what was otherwise an unproductive shoot, he flew onto a nearby tree and waited to have his picture taken.
