Pine SiskinsCarducelis pinus are in the same genus, Carduelis, as goldfinches and the House Finch and often feed with both. They are like a goldfinchs without the gold. They have a uniform brown-streaked breast, abdomen and flanks. The adult male has yellow wing bars. The females lack the yellow color and are very similar to the female house finch. The differences are that the female House Finch has a stubby curved culmen or upper mandible, and has narrow wing bars. By contrast, the female Pine Siskin has a straight upper mandible and heavier white wing bars.
Photos in the 6000 and 7000 series show the yellow variant Pine Siskin.
