The White-faced HeronEgretta novaehollandiae is a very common native of New Zealand, Australia, New Guinea and Indonesia. It was rare in New Zealand until the 1960’s when their numbers exploded. Their success was attributed to its ability to adapt to most wetland habitats and its wide ranging diet. They often drag their foot in shallow waters to stir up potential food.
