These photos were taken at the Bosque del Apache NWR in mid-November. The Ross’s GooseChen rossi is a smaller version of the Snow Goose. It is distinguished by it smaller size with a length of 23 inches versus 28 inches for the lesser Snow Goose and 31 inches for the greater Snow Goose, and by the tendency of the edge of the base of the bill to go straight up (photo 9297) as opposed to the re-curved edge of the Snow Goose (see Snow Goose close-ups). The Ross’s Goose also lacks the “smile line” of the Snow Goose.
