The Micronesian KingfisherTodiramphus cinnamominus is native to the Pacific Islands of Guam, Pohnpei and Palau. With its cinnamon head, blue wings and white breast and abdomen it is one of the most beautiful of the kingfishers.
There are three subspecies: Guam Kingfisher, T. c. cinnamominus Pohnpei Kingfisher, T. c. reichenbachii Palau Kingfisher, T. c. pelewensis
The Guam Kingfisher, is restricted to a captive breeding program following its extinction in the wild due to the introducedbrown tree snake.
The genus Todirhamphusare medium-sized kingfishers with flattened beaks. They are typically blue or blue-green above with pale underparts. They often have a pale collar and stripe over the eye.
