Allen's Hummingbird Selasphorus sasin is the most common visitor to our hummingbird feeders. For such a small bird their behavior of aggressively chasing away other hummingbirds even of the same species surprised me. The feeder often sounded like buzz bombs over England. Their coloring is striking especially in the red-throated males (6676). The wings are always a blur.
The female Allen’s is distinguished from the female Anna’s y having rufus colored sides of the abdomen. BY contrast the abdomen of the Anna’s humming bird is plain white.
