Because of my interest in Darwin's finches during my Galapagos trip I wanted to collect pictures of as many different finch bill variations as possible. I especially wanted a photo of the Large Cactus Finch Geospiza conirostris since its bill was quite large. I saw several in the field but by the time I was in position to take a photo they were gone. Thus, I was pleased to see a Cactus Finch on the ground near the Darwin field station. It had a band on its leg indicating it was part of a study. The bill of the Cactus Finch is distinctive – long, pointed and slight curved downward.
