This Helmeted Guineafowl, Nurnida meleagris, was wandering around in the front lawn of the Beatty’s Guest Ranch and Orchard at the end of the Miller Canyon Road south of Sierra Vista, AZ. It is an intentionally released exotic game bird. The difference in the size of its head and the rest of its body is dramatic. Up close it has vulture-like ugliness with a small brown beat up helmet.
The lats two photos were taken at Discovery COve, FL. The Helmeted Guineafowl is a gregarious species often found in small flocks. Its range is most of the non-Sahara parts of Africa.
