The Stewart Island Shag, Stewart Shag or Bronze ShagPhalacrocorax chalconotus is a species of shag endemic to the southern most parts of the SouthIsland of New Zealand from the Otago Peninsula south the the Foyeaux Strait and to Steward Island/Rakiura, from which it takes its name. The species is dimorphic in appearance. Roughly half the individuals are mostly dark bronze, but with white patches, similar to the King Shag the remainder are bronze all over. The two morphs breed together indifferently. They have a row of white feathers along the scapulars and pink feet. The eye ring is dark grey.
This Stewart Island Shag was photographed on a small rocky island in the Stuart Island Harbor.
