The Lesser FlamingoPhoenicopterus minor is a flamingo native to the Rift Valley and southern regions of Africa (see range map). They are both the smallest and most numerous of the flamingos. It has mostly whitish pink plumage. The pinkish color is a result of the Spirulia algae they eat. Its most distinctive feature is its all black bill.
The small size relative to the Andean Flamingo is shown in photo 8825.
