Red-Whiskered Bulbul Pycnonotus jocosus is a released exotic from India noted for only being seen in the area of San Marino (not far from Monrovia). Its white body, black crest and bib and contrasting red under the eye and red under the tail make for a beautiful bird. In 2009 I saw it only twice. A year latter they were common visitors. Figure 6504 shows three in a tree at a time.
In flight 4235 the bulbul shows a pair of prominent white patches that extend to the tips of the winge.
Photo 4574 shows three createdd birds in one tree - two bulbuls and one phainopepla.
Photos 5866, 5682 and 5687 siow an immature Bulbul missing the red wiskers.
All the above were photographed in our backyard in Monrovia. By contrast 4043 was photographed at the Honolulu Zoo.
